It was Jefferson who first realized the necessity of a free press in America. “Media is the best instrument for enlightening the mind of man, and improving him as a rational, moral and social being,” he said eloquently. Prominent journalist, Bill Moyers, has suggested that there’s nothing more important for a democracy than ensuring an independent and free media.
The loss of this, then, is of great concern to any who seek to live in freedom. Media has become at best a kind of sideshow and at worst, completely irrelevant, because it doesn’t tell us what’s going on. We’ll look at that and consider the implications of this for the liberation of the people, today on Thinking with Somebody Else’s Head.
